IRELAND’S FIVE-STAR K CLUB LAUNCHES “K KUBS” FOR YOUNG GUESTS
CO. KILDARE, IRELAND – 12 April 2007
Responding to increased number of families visiting Ireland’s uber-luxe K Club (also known as The Kildare Hotel, Spa and Country Club), the renown golf and spa retreat set amid 550-acres of pristine parkland on a private stretch of the River Liffey has unveiled its new “K Kubs,” a complimentary fun-filled program for guests, aged 4 to 11 years old.
Staffed by qualified childcare providers in a safe and friendly environment, the newly dedicated “K Kub” features a Children’s Library with comfy chairs and colourful pillows set amid a collection of children’s favourite stories and picture books, and where Story Time takes place throughout the day; a dedicated Arts & Crafts Centre where kids can unleash their creative energy with a variety of painting, drawing and modelling materials; a Learning Land, replete with TVs, DVDs, and electronic computer games; a Nursery, with a host of interactive toys and equipment; and a colourful Game Room, with giant floor boards and traditional pleasures such as puzzles, Scrabble, board games and more.
The “K Kubs” program also offers age-specific garden walks and nature hikes where young explorers learn about area wildlife (including fish and birds), estate history, and even visit the resort’s little pet cemetery! In addition to a series of child-friendly performances and shows - all of which include special take-away surprises, songs and other learning materials – there are also exciting Gaelic activities for youngsters such as traditional Irish storytelling and Irish Dancing lessons.
The K Club has always been a haven for guests travelling with children. In addition to “K Kubs,” families enjoy complimentary use of bicycles, making it easy and fun to explore resort grounds together, and a host of age-appropriate instruction in K Club pursuits such as horseback riding, fishing (either fly or spin) and golf; and special amenities such as plush kid-sized bathrobes and soft slippers, and nightly turn-down surprises with cookies and milk, jigsaws and colouring books. There is even a separate Children’s Check-In area at registration and a large rubber duckie to make bath time extra fun! Each child also receives birthday cards from the K Club as a reminder of their treasured experience.
Although parents can enjoy a romantic dinner for two at any one of the resort’s four gourmet dining outlets - sans children - as expert babysitting services are easily arranged for a fee of €15.00 per hour, The K Club’s elegant Legends restaurant at the Arnold Palmer Clubhouse, overlooking the Ryder Cup Course, caters to children of all ages.
Just a pebble’s toss from the K Club is the Butterfly Farm, open June 1 through August 31, housing the country’s first live tropical butterfly collection, and rare collection of snakes, tarantulas, scorpions and lizards (www.straffanbutterflyfarm.com). Also nearby is Morrell Farm, a “must see” for both kids and adults alike, with its unique open farm, picnic area, home baked goods and old fashioned coffee shop. About a half-hour from the K Club is the Irish National Stud and Horse Museum (www.irish-national-stud.ie), home to some of Ireland’s finest thoroughbred horses since 1946. Here visitors can also enjoy the finest Japanese Gardens in Europe; Saint Fiachra’s Garden with its woodland and lakeside walks, and a lovely Visitors Centre.
With the grace and charm of an Irish country house, The K Club, long known as the Kildare Hotel, Spa & Country Club, is an elegantly restored 19th Century Georgian mansion estate set on the former the site of Straffan House, which was originally modelled after a French chateau by Hugh Barton in 1832, the grandson of legendary winemaker Thomas Barton. Converted into a luxury hotel and country club in 1991, the opening of The K Club was a landmark moment in the Irish hospitality industry; creating new standards of Irish décor and service that have not been surpassed.
The Palmer Course, venue for the recent 2006 Ryder Cup, is hailed among Europe’s greatest courses, while the Smurfit Course is said to be Ireland’s greatest inland course. The 92 guestrooms (24 suites) are individually designed with hand-painted bathrooms, each with marvellous views. In addition to two 18-hole championship golf courses, the K Club recently unveiled the new 20,000 square-foot K Spa, including fitness centre, juice bar, and yoga and Pilates studios.
